The very first Arts and Culture Festival in 2012 set the standard for future festivals.  Our festival is known all over as a festival which established itself as a festival to be reckoned with due to its high standard and excellent adjudicators. In order to keep pace with national and international standards we have adopted (in the various categories) new grading systems.

You will immediately notice that we (in general) do not issue MERITS (as known in Art Festivals in South Africa as an achievement between 50 -59%) in the COMPETITIVE GRADED MUSIC SESSION.  IN THE COMPETITIVE GRADED INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC SESSION, WE FOLLOW THE GENERAL MARKING CRITERIA AS PUBLISHED BY THE ASSOCIATED BOARD OF THE ROYAL SCHOOLS OF MUSIC (ABRSM).

PLEASE CONSULT THE INDIVIDUAL SESSIONS FOR THE APPROPRIATE GRADING SYSTEM.

GENERAL GRADING

90%+                                                                                      =              Engraved Gold Medal

80 – 89%                                                                                =              Gold

70 – 79%                                                                                =              Silver

60 – 69%                                                                                =              Bronze

50 – 59%                                                                                =              Blue (Merit)

Please check the GRADING SYSTEM for each category.

DIPLOMAS

Each candidate receives a state-of-the-art diploma.   The level of achievement is indicated by the notarial seal according to the grading system of the session.

A CANDIDATE WHO RECEIVE A GOLD MEDAL, AUTOMATICALLY RECEIVE A GOLDEN DIPLOMA.  IT IS THE OPINION OF THE ORGANISER THAT IT IS INAPPROPRIATE FOR A CANDIDATE TO RECEIVE AN EMPTY DIPLOMA WITHOUT ANY NOTARIAL SEAL.  THEREFORE, ALL GOLD MEDALS RECEIVE A GOLD SEAL ON THEIR DIPLOMA.

  • The decision of the adjudicator is final.
  • Adjudicators reserve the right to disqualify a candidate if the rules of the Festival are not obeyed.
