NATIONAL MUSIC INSTRUMENTAL COMPETITION

national-instrumental-competition

The Sundays River Valley is characterized by high-intensity agricultural activities (in particular the production of citrus fruits) and a very well developed irrigation system.  In addition to citrus cultivation, various tourist attractions, bed and breakfast facilities, packing sheds and game-related tourist facilities are present throughout the Valley.  The area is known as one of the key production areas for citrus in South Africa.

The Sundays River Valley is home to the National Addo Elephant Park – home of the BIG 7, world-renowned Shamwari Game Reserve, Schotia Safaris, Sylvester the Lion, the Spar Kirkwood Wildsfees and the Sundays River Valley Provincial Arts and Culture Festival as annually hosted by Sundays River Primary School.

The annual Arts and Culture Festival is currently the only and biggest educational festival in the Sundays River Valley.   We attract Primary and High Schools from all over the district as far as East London, Grahamstown, Jeffreysbay, Port Elizabeth etc.   The overall popularity, success and extremely high standard of the festival allowed us to present this festival as of 2017 at Provincial level.

The National Instrumental Competition is a brand-new competition added to the festival in order to keep the festival dynamic.

The purpose of this competition is to create a unique and professional platform in the tranquil and picturesque Sundays River Valley for tertiary music students in instrumental music.   Voice and Pipe Organ will be added to the 2018 National Competition.
