The Sundays River Valley is characterized by high-intensity agricultural activities (in particular the production of citrus fruits) and a very well developed irrigation system. In addition to citrus cultivation, various tourist attractions, bed and breakfast facilities, packing sheds and game-related tourist facilities are present throughout the Valley. The area is known as one of the key production areas for citrus in South Africa.
The Sundays River Valley is home to the National Addo Elephant Park – home of the BIG 7, world-renowned Shamwari Game Reserve, Schotia Safaris, Sylvester the Lion, the Spar Kirkwood Wildsfees and the Sundays River Valley Provincial Arts and Culture Festival as annually hosted by Sundays River Primary School.
The annual Arts and Culture Festival is currently the only and biggest educational festival in the Sundays River Valley.
